Austin Adventures 2014 - page 6

At Austin Adventures, our guides are our lifeblood
They are, after all, the folks who truly
make
your experience. Our guides, however, are not only the world’s best
travel companions, they’re
setting the industry standard when it comes to excellence.
But don’t just take our
word for it – take it from our guests, whose evaluations pour into our Montana office by the day, bursting with
stellar guide reviews.
So what’s the secret?
Our guides possess what we believe is the most important emotional quality one must
embody to do what they do successfully:
empathy.
Austin Adventures guides are excellent listeners. They go to
great lengths to get to know each and every guest on our tours – not just their likes, dislikes and service
preferences, but their individual wants, needs, limitations, hopes and aspirations. As one guest recently stated,
“They anticipate everything...
and come popping out of nowhere just when I need them.”
Along with the ability to empathize, our guides are selected for their
contagious enthusiasm,
their
sense of
humor
and of course their
expertise
on local wildlife, geography, history, language and culture (and not to
mention their extraordinary athletic ability!). With an
average tenure of 14 years
(one of the highest in the
industry), it’s no wonder our guides are a top reason guests return year after year.
Meet Corey Meyer, Doug Thomson and Marko Polic:

Corey
Born in rural Minnesota, Corey’s
love for the great outdoors
began with a paddle in hand, as
he floated the Land of 10,000
Lakes. From there, he took to
the mountains, and fell in love
with the idea of exploring (and
racing) on the seat of a bike.
His favorite vacation
destination? Yellowstone –
“a place so vast, rugged and
raw, it stretches the soul.”
“The care and
devotion to a
perfect adventure,
though always a
goal, was perfected
by our guides.”
Denise Reynolds,
San Jose, CA
“The guides really
make the trips.”
John Delaney,
Alpharetta, GA
“The trip exceeded
our expectations.
Our guide became a
part of our family.”
Michelle Smith,
Hamilton, Bermuda
Doug
Born in Zimbabwe, Doug has
spent the majority of his
adulthood in South Africa, first
as a student and then as a
teacher. There’s nothing he
enjoys more than imparting his
deep knowledge of South
African flora and fauna on his
guests. His favorite hike? “Otter
Trail in the Southern Cape.”
Marko
Since growing up in the
mountains of Croatia, Marko has
played the role of forest
engineer, alpine/sea kayak
expedition leader, ski and
mountaineering instructor and
member of the Czech Republic
world rafting team. His favorite
bike ride? “Vrsic Pass down to
Soca River Valley in Slovenia.”
