Medieval towns, quiet country roads, magnificent castles, and charming locals set the perfect stage for your weeklong adventure from Nördlingen to Wertheim along Germany’s Middle Ages trade route, the Romantic Road.

  • Explore crooked streets, half-timbered houses and a 14th-century wall in the picture-perfect town of Nördlingen
  • Coast through pastures and fields of sunflowers along farming roads closed to four-wheeled traffic
  • Watch a falcon flight show at Schillingsfürst Castle
  • Pedal to Rothenburg, a vibrant village of cliff-side gardens, impressive art and an intriguing criminal museum, and enjoy a guided evening walk with a spirited night watchman
  • Pedal beneath a thick forest canopy along the meandering path of the Tauber River

Munich, Germany (MUC)/ Frankfurt, Germany(FRA)

Day 1: Nördlingen
Meals Included:  D
Overnight: Hotel Klösterle

To kick off your adventure, be ready for pick up at Hotel Excelsior in Munich in the morning and transfer to Nördlingen (or simply meet the group at Hotel Klösterle in Nördlingen at 11 a.m.).

Begin on the Romantic Road at picture-perfect Nördlingen, renowned for its crooked streets, half-timbered houses, and 14th century town wall.

After lunch, make your way through the labyrinth of the old town center, and enjoy a leisurely bike ride in the surrounding countryside.

Tonight, join the group for a grand welcome dinner.

About Hotel Klösterle
Linked to the historic wing of the monastery church, the NH Klösterle Nördlingen is located in the center of the old town on the Romantic Road.

The Klösterle offers modern accommodations and it is very well appointed with artwork. This hotel is the ideal starting point for all activities in the nearby regions.

Day 2: Dinkelsbühl

Overnight: Hotel Deutsches Haus

Coast through small towns, pastures, and fields of sunflowers.

Take a break from your ride to indulge in a delicious group lunch. The riding is stress-free and the bicycle paths are well marked all the way into Dinkelsbühl.

It may have a funny name, but you'll find the colorful village and its people enchanting. Feel free to explore the beauty of the town as you have tonight all to yourself!

About Hotel Deutsches Haus
This 15th Century family-owned hotel exudes Franconian charm and warmth, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy your vacation.

Antique furniture and classic decorations will make you feel as if you have gone back in time but the modern conveniences and accommodating staff will ensure that you have the best of both worlds.

Day 3: Rothenburg

Overnight: Hotel Markusturm

Cycling from village to village on quiet bike paths, your route winds through woodlands and pastures, past fields of thistle rolling with the fertile countryside.

  • Enjoy the falcon show at the castle in Schillingsfürst before a lovely ride into Rothenburg, the prize jewel in this string of romantic gems
  • Crowded and bustling with life, you may believe you are in a traveler's paradise

Where else can you find magnificent cliff side gardens, a wonderfully sinister criminal museum, inspiring artwork and an Internet café all within the town walls?

Your hotel’s quaint dining room will serve up a savory meal for you to enjoy tonight.

About Hotel Markusturm
A customs house back in 1264, Hotel Markusturm sits on a picturesque location in the medieval town. Eight centuries later, it has been transformed into a hotel for visitors from all over the world.

Its rooms are individually and lovingly furnished in modern or antique style to please different tastes in décor.

Day 4: Rothenburg

Overnight: Hotel Markusturm

On Day 4, spend the remainder of the day in town, or transfer to the fortified hilltop town of Langenburg to visit the castle and automobile museum and then bike back.

After dinner, step back in time as we follow the night watchman and hear tales of the often amusing history of Rothenburg.

Day 5: Bad Mergentheim

Overnight: Hotel Victoria

Today our path clings to the Tauber River, providing a lovely backdrop for a relaxing ride.

  • Visit one-of-a-kind riverside towns and tour the magnificent castle and gardens at Weikersheim
  • Reward yourself with a wine tasting at Markelsheim
  • Enjoy a dinner with the group, then unwind at your comfortable hotel in the center of town

About Hotel Victoria
Conveniently located next to the center of town, Hotel Victoria is a legendary and charming hotel.

Its exclusive ambiance, stylish rooms and excellent cuisine spoil the most discerning guests. The lovely courtyard invites to have a drink.

Day 6: Wertheim
Meals Included:  B, L, D
Overnight: Hotel Schwan

Thick forests and deep mountain passes carved by the Tauber make for spectacular cycling.

Visit the castle in Tauberbischofsheim or the cloister in Bronnbach, then stroll through Wertheim's lovely Altstadt with shops, museums and a hilltop castle.

Tonight, enjoy a farewell dinner of local specialties at a restaurant near the banks of the Main River.

About Hotel Schwan
The Hotel Schwan, located at the center of the Franconian wine country – was built onto the former city walls and the old city gate of the medieval Wertheim. Combine this with the gorgeous surroundings and you are sure to have a very personal experience in its recently renovated rooms.

Day 7: Frankfurt
Meals Included:  B

On the 7th and final day, after breakfast, transfer to Frankfurt for your departure home.

If you have time, consider spending a night in Heidelberg!

  • After a transfer to Nördlingen and a briefing, the cycling begins.
  • After breakfast on Day 7, we take you to the airport, train station, or the hotel of your choice in Frankfurt (1 hour transfer).
