Tour Itinerary

12 days/11 nights

Windhoek, Namibia (WDH)

Day 1: Windhoek / Naankuse
Meals Included:  D
Overnight: Naankuse Lodge & Wildlife Sanctuary

On arrival, you will be met by a Wilderness Safaris representative at the Windhoek/Hosea Kutako International Airport, who will hand over your travel documents and ensure all goes well on arrival. From the airport you drive a short while to Naankuse, your first stop in Namibia. Naankuse is a perfect stop for eager children who can't wait to see their first animals. As it's a wildlife sanctuary, animals will be found in enclosures, though Naankuse always strives to release wild animals where possible and has successfully reintroduced for example cheetah to the Namib Rand Nature Reserve and reluctantly only keeps those in the sanctuary that will never be able to be released back into the wild. The Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt family makes this their regular home on holidays to Namibia.

Day 2: Mushara Bush Camp
Meals Included:  B, L, D
Overnight: Mushara Bush Camp

Drive from Naankuse to Mushara Bush Camp - it's a long drive, though all of it is via tarred main roads of Namibia, passing through various small towns where there is ample opportunity to stretch legs and have a lunch at a local cafe. Mushara Bush Camp is one of the few true family friendly camps in Namibia. In the main house there is a special area designated for children offering a choice of books, games, toys, drawing utensils, creative plays and very friendly child minders to keep the children active. Outside there is a play park with a jungle gym, old tractor and a sand pit, as well as a kiddie pool. The close location to eastern Etosha means it's also an ideal base from which to explore the National Park

Day 3 & 4 : Etosha National Park / Anderssons Camp
Meals Included:  B, L, D
Overnight: Andersson's Camp

Today we drive via Namibia's premier wildlife destination, Etosha National Park and make stops along the way at one of the many waterholes located inside the park to experience some exciting wildlife sightings. A total of 114 mammals are represented in the park, including several rare and endangered species such as black rhino and black-faced impala. Other mammals in the park include elephants (reputed to be the largest in Africa), giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, lion, cheetah, leopard, along with many types of antelope. While you can't exit the vehicle within the park itself, we'll be sure to stop at Okaukuejo and Halali rest camps to stretch our legs, make use of the swimming pools, enjoy lunch and of course, eat some ice cream. Otherwise, we'll aim to arrive early at Andersson's Camp, which also boasts a waterhole conveniently located right at the main lodge and dining area, so guests can spend all afternoon enjoying wildlife sightings whilst enjoying a cold lemonade and comfortable seating

Day 5 & 6: Damaraland / Doro Nawas
Meals Included:  B, L, D
Overnight: Doro Nawas

Drive from Anderssons Camp through Damaraland to Doro Nawas today. Damaraland is culturally very interesting; including trips to fascinating rock engravings, visits to the local Damara communities and searching for desert adapted elephants, as well as the rare Black Rhino. Visits to the De Riedt village, home of the Doro Nawas conservancy, can be arranged; here, children can interact with the local kids and learn how they live in this harsh environment (pending on school holiday season). The community is always excited to welcome visitors and share their stories of how the conservancy was initiated, the challenges they face, as well as their successes since implementation of local conservancies.

Day 7 & 8: Swakopmund / Central Guest House
Meals Included:  B
Overnight: Central Guest House

Self-drive from Doro Nawas to Central Guest House in Swakopmund, a unique town hedged by desert and sea. Swakopmund is the ideal family destination, a quaint town that offers a cool climate year round, and offers a selection of fun activities for children of all ages, from boat cruises to playing on the beach searching for shells, to sandboarding and quadbiking tours for the older children. Recommended tours include a Catamaran Charter Marine Boat cruise, where the family can interact with seals, and hope to get a glimpse of dolphins, as well as some rare encounters with the massive Mola Mola sunfish and maybe even turtles such as the leatherback and Green Turtle. Another highlight would be joining a Living Desert Tour, where your intrepid guide hopes to find you the “Little Five” of the Namib Desert, including chameleon, barking gecko, sidewinder viper, white lady spider and lizard, for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Day 9 & 10: Sossusvlei / Kulala Desert Lodge
Meals Included:  B, D
Overnight: Kulala Desert Lodge

Drive from Central Guest House in Swakopmund to Kulala Desert Lodge - Over the next couple of days, explore the Sossusvlei Dunes, attempt to climb Big Daddy, take a game drive looking for desert adapted wildlife, visit the hauntingly dry Dead Vlei, and even take an evening scorpion walk, using UV lights to search for these critters that glow in the dark. Afternoons are at your leisure at Kulala Desert Lodge; you can explore nearby attractions like Sesriem Canyon or take on optional add-ons like horse riding at a nearby reserve, quadbiking, or hot-air ballooning (age restrictions may apply to certain tours).

Day 11: Windhoek / Haus Sonneneck
Meals Included:  B
Overnight: Haus Sonneneck

Self-drive from Kulala Desert Lodge to Haus Sonneneck. Your last night in Windhoek, Namibia's capital, gives you the opportunity to reminisce of your adventure just passed, shake the sand out of your shoes and prepare for the oncoming safari home. Haus Sonneneck offers spacious family rooms, with its own little garden space for the family, and can assist in making reservations at nearby restaurants such as the entertaining Joe's Beerhouse.

Day 12: Windhoek / Haus Sonneneck
Meals Included:  B
Overnight: No Overnight

Today, say goodbye to the beautiful country of Namibia as you drive to the Windhoek/Hosea Kutako International Airport for your flights home.
