Home to countless volcanoes, a spectacular coastline, the two largest fresh-water lakes in Central America, and rainforests teeming with flora and fauna, it’s no wonder Nicaragua has been designated one of Mesoamerica’s “biodiversity hotspots.”

  • Take a refreshing dip in "Ojo de Agua" (a natural spring) on Ometepe Island
  • Tour Granada, one of the oldest cities in the western hemisphere and one of the last truly colonial cities
  • Hike Masaya Volcano National Park, home to a 54-square-kilometer caldera and two volcanoes – one dormant, one active
  • Kayak among the famed Mombacho islets of Lake Nicaragua on the Asese Peninsula
  • Soar with a boisterous population of monkeys and birds on a zip-line tour of Mombacho Nature Reserve
  • Relax on the sparkling white sand beaches of San Juan del Sur, the ocean extending out in front of you as far as the eye can see
