Euro-Bike & Walking Tours is founded by Dr. Hendrik & Ellen Hoeve and Wim van Dijk, becoming the first U.S. bike tour company to establish operations in Europe.
Backcountry Tours founded in 1985 by Doug and Carmin McSpadden specializing in bike tours in and around the Rockies.
Dan Austin takes bike trip to Grand Teton National Park with a small tour operation located in Bozeman, Montana. He is so inspired he gathers together like-minded partners and purchases the company, Backcountry Tours.
Austin sells Backcountry Tours and 3 days later decides he wants to be back in the adventure travel business.
Adventures plus is started and operates out of Dan’s basement.
Paul Lehman and Dan Austin meet when Paul, an avid traveler and proponent of family travel, discovers Austin’s business. A quick friendship leads to a new partnership.
Austin-Lehman Adventures is incorporated and formed.
ALA acquires Backcountry Tours.
Paul Lehman and Dan Austin join forces to form Austin-Lehman Adventures. Merged 2 companies Back country Bicycle Tours and Adventures Plus together at this time.
We added our first international trip to our portfolio in Costa Rica.
We opened up South America by adding Peru & Galapagos Islands.
We added Africa to our trip list.
Acquired Eurobike tours.
We added Europe to our portfolio.
Dan started up Wheels of Change (then it was called Bicycles for Humanity) and donated our mountain bike fleet to the cause.
Dan & Carol Austin become sole owners of Austin-Lehman Adventures.
Austin-Lehman Adventures moved out to the country to “the farm”.
Xanterra acquires Austin-Lehman Adventures. We change our name from ALA to Austin Adventures.
Opened Australia adventure portfolio & launched line of small cruise ship adventures.
Introduced SE Asia. Austin now offers adventures on all 7 continents.
Austin Adventures buys company back from Xanterra. Family owned and operated once again!
