Guide Biography:

Porter Elliot bikingPorter was born in Billings MT in 1978. He is the oldest of three boys and as children of adventurous parents, the desire to explore was ingrained early. Weekend ski trips to Red Lodge Mountain started in child carriers and skis were put on as soon as walking permitted. Summers were filled with swimming, soccer, cycling, kayaking and skateboarding. The Beartooth Mountains of Montana set the scene for early backpacking and fly fishing trips and sowed the seeds for more mountain adventures.

The day he finished high school, Porter moved to Big Sky, MT, and he has called it home ever since. In 2003 he departed for a ski season in France. Based in Val d’Isere/Tignes he ended up with season passes at both Espace Killy and the Aiguille Du Midi in Chamonix. While in France he decided that upon returning home, he would begin his studies in pursuit of being a physician. Three years into his neuroscience and cell biology studies, he was very sure he no longer had any interest in becoming a physician and got back to skiing full time near Big Sky. (As a student he only managed 50 days a season.)

Porter has visited England, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy, Corsica and traveled extensively within the United States. He is a two-time finisher of an Ironman triathlon in Coeur d’Alene Idaho and has run the Rut 50k run at Big Sky Resort two times as well. Now winter is easy, ski every day, and summer is where the tough decisions lie. There are so many fun things to do! Bike, hike, run, fly fish, surf, golf, camp, kayak, raft, swim and most of all, do these things in new places while meeting new people.
