Looking to get out for an adventure, but only have one day? We’re here to help. Let us show you the best of the best with your precious time! We have over 35 years of experience running trips in our national parks and we know the best places. Yellowstone, for example, is the largest national park in the lower 48 and there is no way to see it all in one day… but we know the best spots and we can help you get the most out of your short visit.
Your guide will pick you up at 7:00 AM this morning from Teton Lodge & Spa. Begin the drive up to Yellowstone National Park; in total, you’ll drive around 2.5 hours (plus stops) to get to the Midway Geyser Basin. Here, you’ll do a short hike to an overlook of Grand Prismatic Hot Spring, the third largest hot spring in the world. From up above, the colors of the hot spring are incredibly bright! Upon arriving back to the van, you’ll drive about 15 minutes to Upper Geyser Basin, home to our world’s most famous geyser, Old Faithful. Your guide will check the timing of Old Faithful; it erupts every 90 minutes or so – and will plan the remainder of your visit to the area accordingly. There are plenty of other spouting geysers and colorful hot springs in the area to check out, and your visit will be customized to what’s erupting in the area and how far your group feels like hiking today. You’ll also have a chance to enjoy a to-go style lunch at any point you start feeling hungry. After you’ve had your fill of geyser gazing, begin the 2.5-hour drive back down to Jackson, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in time for dinner (between 5:00 and 6:00 PM).
This morning, you’ll be picked up at 8:00 AM from your hotel. Your guide will drive you 2.5 hours (plus stops) to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone area. Here, you’ll set out on one of our favorite hikes, the Wapiti Trail (3 miles, rolling hills). This hike starts off in a rolling, open meadow, eventually spurring into lodgepole pine forest. Walk through a moonlike backcountry geyser basin where you’ll get to see a few bubbling mudpots, and you’ll eventually find yourself at the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. Enjoy a packed sack lunch on the trail. End your hike at a beautiful view of the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, where you’ll have plenty of time to snap photos of the waterfall and canyon from as many angles as you please. After you’ve had your fill of the Grand Canyon, begin your journey south towards Jackson Hole with a stop at West Thumb Geyser Basin on the shores of Lake Yellowstone on the way back to stretch the legs. You’ll be dropped off in time for dinner (between 5:00 and 6:00 PM).
