WHICH TIME IS BEST FOR YOU?
When considering the best time to visit Nicaragua, you should first decide what you want to do while you’re there. If your priority is surfing the best waves possible, you’ll want to go during the rainy season, when the waves are top notch. If you like to keep your feet on the ground on vacation, then you may want to experience all that is wonderful about Nicaragua during the dry season: the hiking, volcanoes, colonial architecture, and, of course, the breathtaking views!
Nicaragua by the Seasons
Any time of year is a great time to visit Nicaragua, but they definitely experience two distinct seasons – a rainy season and a dry season. Here’s a peek at what you can expect in each of the seasons:
Dry Season (December – April)
Nicaragua’s dry season is December through April. Much of the Pacific side of Nicaragua is made up of tropical dry forest. During the dry season, many of the trees lose their leaves and there are not as many flowers in bloom. However, you will experience clear blue sky and less humidity, which makes exploring the colonial cities or towering volcanoes a little easier and more comfortable.
Rainy Season (May to November)
Nicaragua’s rainy season is May through November. Most of the rain that falls during the rainy season falls in the evenings or at night so you will generally experience periods of sunny, blue skies during the daytime hours when you’re out exploring. September and October get the most rain, but this is when sea turtles are nesting and some of the remote beaches are host thousands of turtles during the nesting season.
