Back by popular demand! ALA’s Featured Recipe
apfelpfannkuchenapplesLocal Bite: Apfelpfannkuchen
Preheat the oven to 475F. Blend flour, sugar, salt, eggs, half and half, and vanilla until smooth. In a ten-inch oven-proof sauce pan, melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg together on medium heat (be careful not to burn the butter.) Once the butter has melted, add the apples and saute until caramelized and brown (at least ten minutes, once the juices have released and reduced.)  Pour the batter on top of the apples and put the pan in the oven.  Bake for 15-18 minutes until the top is light brown and puffed.*Apfelpfannkuchen is German for apple pancake, and is more commonly referred to as a “Dutch Baby” or “Apple Baby” in the United States!
