Day 1: Arrive in Bali

Meet your driver at Denpasar airport and transfer to Sanur. This seaside beach town is the first one to be established on the island. The beach is quiet and good for walks; on the distance you can see the Lembongan Island and on a clear morning if you look do north you might spot the mighty Agung Volcano. It's the perfect location to start you trip and recharge batteries.

The accommodation tonight will be at the Segara one of the original resorts in Bali, great infinity pool, large gardens and even a small temple on the grounds.

Meet your guide in the morning for your transfer from Sanur to Tabanan with interesting and scenic stops along the way. First stop will be in Mengwi for a visit to the Royal Family Temple of Taman Ayun, one of the most beautiful temples on the island. Afterwards you will visit one of Bali's most spectacular sites, Tanah Lot Temple, one of the most photographed temples in the world. It is perched on a barren rock outcrop and at high tide is completely surrounded by the ocean. This is usually visited during sunset but these days has become so popular that it is best to visit in the morning when it's quieter. Arrive at the hotel in Tabanan in the late afternoon, settle and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure and enjoy the wonderful beachfront accommodation. It also has a range of spa services that you can schedule directly with the hotel staff onsite. Located in a secluded location Waka Gangga is the ideal spot to embark on the exploration of West Bali.

Be prepared for today's land cruising adventure with Waka Land Cruise in 4WD! First stop is a natural stone quarry where villagers have cut the stone out of a dry riverbed for generations. The trip continues to an agricultural village where you will discover the fragrance of Balinese coffee being roasted and where traditional Balinese snacks are freshly prepared for you. Learn to make "canang", the most important element of Balinese temple offerings and take an optional 30 minute leisurely trek through the rice fields.

Next stop is a trip high into the mountains in the UNESCO-recognized rice terraces of Jatiluwih, followed by a sumptuous Balinese lunch, served in a rainforest restaurant surrounded by giant bamboo. Enjoy a glass of wine, beer, tea or Balinese coffee in the glorious open-air canopy. You can try to play one of Balinese traditional musical instrument "rindik" or just leave it to the expert and simply enjoy the music. After lunch, you will visit Batukaru temple, a unique sacred mountain sanctuary and royal temple of the Tabanan dynasty. It was founded in 11th century by Empu Kuturan, a great Hindu Sage who established six main temples on the island of Bali. Back to the hotel by late afternoon.

Day 4: Stand Up Paddle Boarding & North Bali Waterfalls

Today's unique experience will be a stand up paddle board activity in the highlands of Bedugul. On a SUP day trip your day starts early in the morning! Our SUP Master will pick you up at the resort around 7.30am with a car packed with boards and paddles. From the hotel you will travel about one and half hours up to the northern portion of the island, toward the beautiful area of Bedugul. Located here are the pristine Buyan, Beratan and Tamblingan lakes. Before you jump into the water, Rita Pires, a former European champion of surfing, will give an explanation about the STAND UP PADDLE experience, teaching the SUP basic techniques, the safety procedures and how to use the equipment. In that explanation you will find out that the SUP boards used on the tours are custom designs by Rita (an athlete with vast experience in the field), with special characteristics that make them unique.

After the SUP experience on the Lake, our host will take you to the beautiful waterfalls of GitGit. A fresh and pure water channel that comes from the mountains toward the North Coast of Bali. Around the GitGit waterfall you will visit a local village and enjoy a Balinese traditional meal cooked by native people with fresh and local ingredients.

Day 5: Explore Temples and a Coffee Plantation

Enjoy your leisurely breakfast on the last day at this resort. Meet your guide around 10.30am to drive to your next destination in Munduk. You'll make a stop at the shores of Lake Bratan to see one of Bali's most picturesque temples, Pura Ulun Danau. Check in at your charming villa style resort tucked away in the lush vegetation among a working coffee plantation. Designed by award winning Bali architect, Popo Danes, the property expertly marries key features of Balinese architecture with a modernist tradition, adapted to the environment of this beautiful location.

Munduk is a typical Balinese village, with its village-temple, busy morning-market and of course its barking dogs late into the night. The villagers make their living growing cloves and rice so there are rice-terraces and clove-plantations as far as the eye can see. This area is ideally suited for long and short hikes.

Spend today relaxing and enjoying the resort or partaking in the many physical and cultural activities on offer for guests, known as the "MMP Experience." Each morning guided nature walks are offered around the grounds amongst organic gardens and to hidden waterfalls and temples. Balinese kite making and flying classes are offered as are Gamelan making classes. There are also workshops explaining traditional Balinese attire, floral offerings and arrangements. Coffee making and harvesting demonstrations are regular as are more extensive guided treks by foot or Balinese ponies. The choices are endless at this hidden jewel bound to be a highlight of your trip and time in Bali.

Day 7: Hot Springs, Monestaries, and the North Coast

In the early morning you are brought to the resort-town of Lovina. At sunrise you board a small outrigger that takes you searching for dolphins that can often be seen off the coast. Around 8:00 a.m. you will have breakfast in a seaside hotel. On the way a colorful Buddhist monastery can be visited and you can bathe in the hot springs of Banjar. After, the scenic road along the north-coast brings you to Pemutaran, a small fishing village with a number of hotels on the beach. The vineyards of Hatten, Bali's biggest wine-producer are situated here. Just off coast lies the island of Menjangan which offers excellent snorkeling, with clear waters and few currents. The island and surrounding coral gardens are part of Bali's only national park: Bali Barat. Here the endangered Bali Sparrow lives. In certain places captured birds are released back into the park.

Nestled away between the Bali Barat National Park and the Java Sea, the secluded Matahari Beach Resort & Spa is a perfect destination for connoisseurs of luxury and relaxation. Transfer in the morning to the harbor where the wooden boats are docked for the crossing to Menjangan island. Today you will enjoy magnificent snorkeling from the white beach and from the boat. A splendid picnic lunch will be had in a tranquil location.

Today you drive through Singaraja where you can visit a colorful market. You stop at the rice-temple of Pura Beji, the monumental Meduwe Karang temple and Pura Ponjok Batu. A secondary road leads through spectacular scenery. The highest point, Kintamani, offers a stunning view of Mount Batur and its lake. You can have a look at the Pura Batur temple, which is very important for the Balinese. This temple has beautiful meru towers.

For lunch we will stop at Lake View a spectacular place to enjoy great food while watching the great Batur volcano and lake in the distance. After Kintamani, the road descends and you continue to Ubud. Pass the holy springs at Tirtha Empul and the ancient monuments of Gunung Kawi which are hidden in a lush green river valley.

In the 1930s Ubud become the island's center for the arts where the likes of Waltes Spies and Miguel Covarruvias set up base to be inspired by its unique environment and people. Since then Ubud is synonym with culture and tradition. It's the vibrant center for Balinese arts. There are also great restaurants and shops making it the ideal location to experience great food and small shops.

You'll then be taken to check in at your stunning hotel, a small property located on a secluded green area with views of the Petanu River. Close to Ubud yet in a tranquil and inviting setting. Yoga classes and Balinese activities such as walks in the surrounding area are offered complimentary for guests.

Day 10: Eco-Cycling & Traditional Village Experience

Today you be taking part in adventurous Bali eco cycling. Privately guided through the heartland of Bali, traveling downhill along non-tourist sites, secret back roads and minor village roads (with little traffic). Experience typical Balinese daily life and immerse yourself in the beautiful Balinese countryside.

There are numerous stops on the way, including a visit to a traditional Balinese home/compound. Here you get to see first hand how the Balinese live outside the tourist areas, a Balinese plantation where you learn of the medicinal and culturally important uses of local plants, the process of making coffee and see many of the spices you have eaten throughout your trip. After you finish cycling this afternoon, you will be transferred back to your resort.

Day 11: Dinner with a host family

The morning is free to enjoy breakfast at leisure in your suite. Maybe partake in some of the complimentary activities of the resort such as yoga or a morning walk. Later in the early afternoon we invite you to join us in a memorable trip to the soul of the island. Meeting local artists at their homes and workshops we open the door to a world that is normally hidden form the sight of travelers. You can buy an art piece in a showroom but how about meeting the masters themselves.

We always dream about a chance to meet interesting local people, we will give you the opportunity of meeting some local maestros and then having dinner with a host family in a real Balinese home.
