In the 1930s Ubud become the island's center for the arts where the likes of Waltes Spies and Miguel Covarruvias set up base to be inspired by its unique environment and people. Since then Ubud is synonym with culture and tradition. It's the vibrant center for Balinese arts. There are also great restaurants and shops making it the ideal location to experience great food and small shops.
