Day 1
Day 1:
Victoria Arrival | Goldstream Provincial Park Hike | Scenic Bike Ride | Cathedral Grove Hike | Port Alberni
Your Vancouver Island adventure begins in Victoria, the charming capital of British Columbia. After a brief welcome meeting, you’ll head just outside the city to Goldstream Provincial Park for a short hike where you’ll behold thundering falls and towering trees hundreds of years old. Refuel with a picnic lunch before setting off on a scenic bike ride that offers incredible views of the Gulf Islands. Cap off your day wandering among the giants of Cathedral Gove on a short, yet awe-inspiring hike among centuries-old Douglas firs. End your day in Port Alberni where you’ll enjoy a well-earned dinner.
Ferry Transfer to Ucluelet | Hike Wild Pacific Trail | Black Rock Resort
Your transfer today allows you to experience a slice of everyday life along the shores of Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. A local ferry brings you from Port Alberni to Ucluelet, offering opportunities to spy wildlife like whales, sea lions, bald eagles, mink and river otters and get a sense of what it’s like to live along these quaint waters. After your 5-hour cruise, you’ll arrive in the beautiful coastal town of Ucluelet. Enjoy lunch at a local park before hiking part of the Wild Pacific Trail to your home for the next three nights – Black Rock Resort. Relax and re-join your fellow travelers a bit later for dinner in the resort’s restaurant.
Bike from Ucluelet to Tofino | Sea Kayak and Rainforest Hike
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll bike the ʔapsčiikt̓ašii (pronounced ups-cheek ta-shee) pathway from Ucluelet to Tofino. This multi-use pathway was developed alongside the First Nation tribes who call these lands home, focusing on respecting and protecting the cultural heritage and natural wonders of this area. Every sense is sparked as you pedal through this part of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. After stopping in the park to refuel for lunch, you’ll embark on a rainforest sea kayaking and hiking adventure. The waters here are a sea kayaker’s paradise. Paddle around the tiny islands near Tofinio before exploring the old-growth rainforest of Meares Island with a local guide. Dinner this evening is in Tofinio at a local restaurant with delicious farm-fresh fare.
The wild natural beauty that surrounds Tofino unfolds before you today. En route to Hot Springs Cove – a remote area on Vancouver Island’s west coast with natural geothermal hot springs – scan the seas and the skies for whales, black bears, seals, sea lions, puffins, sea otters, bald eagles and more on a 90-minute cruise. Step off the boat and onto a boardwalk trail that winds through a lush old-growth forest. You’ll have time to soak in the hot springs, explore the jagged rock formations and steaming waterfalls, and eat a picnic lunch before your 90-minute return cruise. The night is yours tonight to do as you please!
Rainforest and Canyon Zip Line Tour | Afternoon Hike | Victoria
A thrilling adventure is in store for you this morning on a zip-line tour through Ha’uukmin Tribal Park. As you hike among the series of lines, a local guide will educate you about the history and lands that have sustained the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations people for generations. Feel the wind (and a smile!) on your face as you zip across the canyon. Refuel with a picnic lunch before departing for Victoria. We’ll break up the long drive with a short hike, allowing you to stretch your legs and take in more of the wild, rugged beauty of Vancouver Island.
This morning, take in Colorado’s inspiring landscapes one last time in the aptly named Garden of the Gods. Wander beneath massive red rocks shooting straight into the sky while keeping watch for hawks, deer, and the elusive bighorn sheep. We’ll then head back to the hotel to clean up and collect your belongings before departing for Denver. Say your goodbyes to your newly found friends and take memories of a lifetime with you!
