Arrive in Jakarta and continue your direct flight to Yogyakarta. Upon arrival at Yogyakarta airport, meet your local tour leader and driver and transfer to your hotel for some rest. This evening, depending on arrival time, we have a special signature program in store. To most travelers, Yogyakarta is known as the cultural center of Java, but Yogya also has a lot to offer for the food enthusiast! Start walking from Tugu Monument or hop on a becak (pedicab) and see traditional and modern angkringan (food stalls) along the way. Head to the area famous for kopi joss, coffee with a brick of burning hot charcoal! After this you’re ready to continue by becak to soak up the hustle and bustle of JalanMalioboro. You will then continue to the alun-alun (square) south of the kraton (palace) where you can try the legendary walk through two warring trees (banyan trees) while blindfolded. Afterward, continue to the Wijilan area to sample different kinds of Yogya’s famous dish gudeg (jackfruit curry). These were just starters, so to wrap up this culinary experience we’ll finish at one of the famous angkringan restaurants popular with students and families alike. Here you can choose from dozens of freshly made dishes cooked up in front of you. Wash it all down with some flavorful and colorful drinks like wedanguwuh (a red herbal drink) or wedangjahe (ginger tea) to round up your culinary Yogya experience!

Meet your guide this morning and prepare to go deep into the culture, people, and history of Central Java. There is a nostalgic feeling found in decaying palaces and old cities. Imagine a walled compound complete with markets, an underground hidden Mosque that resembles an Escher dream, and top it off with the home of the Sultan. Now you start to get an idea of today’s itinerary! From the little maze-like streets of the Taman Sari to the wayang kulit or shadow puppets at the Kraton palace we want to show you the heart and soul of Yogyakarta by foot. Allow yourself some time to get some souvenirs at the shops and markets along Jl. Malioboro or BeringHarjo Market. Take a break at one of the many cafés or restaurants serving local drinks and snacks. Optional afternoon Lava adventure by jeep for those with a strong sense of adventure!
After breakfast, you will drive to Borobudur to see this amazing religious site. The Borobudur is the biggest Buddhist temple in the world and listed on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Borobudur predates Angkor Wat by 300 years and Notre Dame by 200 years. “Discovered” in 1815, it has been excavated and returned to its original glory. The stone relief panels offer a clear glimpse into Buddhist doctrine and Javanese life 1,000 years ago. Hop on a bicycle and ride through the beautiful rice fields with the mighty Borobudur always in your sight. We will explore local Javanese villages and see how the people make a living and how they work the land. We finish our bicycle trip at the Borobudur where you’ll have plenty of time to amble around and soak up the atmosphere surrounding this fabulous monument. After the tour, you will be served a true Javanese meal in a traditional-style restaurant surrounded by rice fields. Later we will travel to the MesaStila, one of the most unique properties in Indonesia. The views alone are out of this world and the setting amid a plantation takes you back to the days of Old Java.
MesaStila is a luxury five-star resort & spa that incorporates an unparalleled collection of remarkable antiques and enchanting buildings; including Central Java icons such as a Colonial railway station and historic Joglo-villas. At MesaStila, the focus is on luxury yet keeping the traditional, local, and wholesome experiences intact, which accentuate the magnificence of the environment, the people, the culture and facilitate a healthy lifestyle, full of a wonderful experience. Your spacious one-bedroom villa is lavishly furnished with traditional Javanese décor and antiquities, featuring a large Mediterranean bathroom, a cozy day-bed, and a large balcony overlooking the spectacular views of Central Java’s mountains.
After the last few active days, it’s time to take it easy back. You may relax by the infinity pool at MesaStila or choose from one of the in-house activities: Traditional Jamu, Coffee Plantation Tour, Batik, or Janur. In the Traditional Jamu class, you’ll learn about the leaves, flowers, and roots that Indonesia’s ancestors experimented with to discover what useful properties they hold. A tour of the coffee plantation will have you learning about growing, harvesting, and producing coffee. Batik is an art image on fabric that originated from the royalty in Indonesia’s bygone cultural era. Godhong klapa is the Javanese word for the coconut leaf, which is used as a tool for daily life in many areas of Indonesia.
This morning meet your guide and transfer to Semarang to continue your trip to Bali. Semarang is in an old Dutch port from the days of the East Indies. Not many travelers visit this city which makes a quiet unique destination off the beaten track. If time allows your guide will show you around some of the city’s historical landmarks. Fly Semarang to Denpasar. Upon arrival, you will then transfer to your hotel in Ubud with the evening at your leisure. Until late in the 19th century, Ubud was a minor principality subservient to the palaces of Peliatan and Gianyar. Through a series of well-chosen alliances and the colonial meddling of the Dutch, Ubud prospered and began attracting refugee painters, sculptors, dancers, and architects who had fallen out of favor in the other kingdoms. Under the influence of Prince Agung Gede Sukawati, Ubud attracted Western artists and scholars such as Miguel and Rose Covarrubias, Margaret Mead, and Walter Spies, who helped secure Ubud as the cultural and spiritual nucleus of the island.
