Venture from Lake Nakuru through the Masai Mara and into the Tanzanian Serengeti, taking in an out-of-this-world display of wildlife, culture, and natural beauty.
Nairobi, Kenya (NBO)
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, you will be met by a representative from Twiga Tours with champagne, wet towels, and some safari essentials. You'll then be transferred to the Sarova Stanley Hotel, your accommodations for the evening.
About the Sarova Stanley Hotel
The design concept of the Stanley takes on a Victorian theme, retaining the high ceilings and old world charm of the era while incorporating every comfort and luxury for the traveller of today. Hotel facilities at the Stanley include 225 luxurious rooms with private bathroom and shower, hair dryer, three telephones, TV with CNN, BBC, M-Net, Super-sport and three movie channels.
The rooms are all individually air-conditioned and have double-glazed windows, safe and minibar in the rooms. There are sixteen suites with three whirlpool tubs, 38 Sarova Club rooms, three restaurants, valet service, 24 hour room service, security service, chemist, travel desk, large shopping complex and a fully equipped health club with a sauna, steam bath, swimming pool and daily fitness classes.
After breakfast, your driver will pick you up from the hotel for the drive to the Lake Nakuru Lodge for lunch and check-in. This afternoon is devoted to game viewing at the baboon cliff, lion hill, and the Mau escarpment. Spot species such as lions, cape buffalo, waterbucks, wart hogs, black and white rhinos, giraffes, zebras, impalas, the elusive leopard and more. Return to the lodge for a delicious, luxury meal before retiring for the evening.
About Mbweha Safari Camp
Mbweha Camp is nestled up against the southern border of Lake Nakuru National Park with beautiful views over the Eburru and Mau ranges. Congreve Conservancy is part of the greater conservancy area called Soysambu which has a large part of Elementaita within its borders.
Rustic lava-stone cottages with thatched roofs are surrounded by euphorbia candelabra, yellow barked acacia and other indigenous trees. Mbweha Camp is only a few hours from Nairobi, yet feels right away from it all with its relaxed atmosphere. Being situated outside a National Park allows many activities, including walking, mountain biking and night game drives. Guests can also enjoy day trips into Nakuru National Park with the option of a gourmet bush lunch with spectacular views of the Lake and the National Park.
Wake for an early morning breakfast and a transfer to the Masai Mara National Reserve, with wonderful scenery and plenty of game along the way. Arrive at the intimate, 20-tent Tipilikwani Camp to a warm welcome and a leisurely lunch. This afternoon we'll depart for an exiting viewing drive through the rolling plains and grasslands, home to black-maned lions, the savannah elephant, wildebeests, leopards, cheetahs, and spotted hyenas among many others. After getting your fill of sighting a variety of birds and wildlife, return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing evening.
About Tipilikwani Luxury Tented Camp
As the maxim goes: Location! Location! Location! Set on the banks of the Talek River and overlooking the Mara plains, Tipilikwani Camp has one of the most spectacular views available. Set in the middle of what is considered the greatest wildlife reserve in Africa, Maasai Mara is home to one of the modern wonders of the world; the wildebeest migration as well as home to the Big Five. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast by the Talek River or a cold refreshing drink over a spectacular sunset or experience fine dining by candlelight all overlooked by carefully trained attentive staff. During the day, search for lions, cheetah, elephant, leopard, black rhino, giraffe, zebra, hippo and over 500 resident bird species including larks, sunbirds and the Lilac- Breasted Roller This is the Tipilikwani Experience.
Today you have the option of taking a balloon safari over the Mara plains followed by a champagne breakfast, visiting a traditional Masai Manyatta to experience the culture of the world famous community, or spend the day looking for the big five on the Masai Mara plains. Lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and black rhinos await in the famous hunting destination of the early 20th century. You may even be lucky enough to witness a leopard or cheetah take down their prey! Return to camp for dinner and another night at Tipilikwani Luxury Tented Camp.
Enjoy a hearty breakfast and grab a picnic lunch for a transfer into Tanzania and the world famous Serengeti National Park. Covering an area of 14, 763 square kilometers, Serengeti National Park is Tanzania's oldest park and one of the world's greatest wildlife refuges. The Serengeti ecosystem supports the largest remaining concentration of plains game in Africa, including more than three million large mammals. We'll arrive at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge in time for check-in, dinner, and a quiet evening to prepare for tomorrow's adventure.
About Serengeti Sopa Lodge
Looking out over the seemingly endless Serengeti plains, this hillside lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 14,000 sq kms (5,000 sq miles) of National Park. The Serengeti plains are host to a dramatic annual migration of hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and numerous other species of animals indigenous to the area. Opened in 1992, the lodge can accommodate 170 guests in 79 suites, each enjoying wall-to-wall carpeting, a private lounge with a mini bar, a bedroom with two queen size beds and ample room for a third, an en-suite bathroom with shaver sockets and a hair dryer, and a private verandah which offers stunning views over the plains. The lodge has direct-dial satellite telephone facilities as well as satellite television and wildlife-video-film options. A numbers of lodge electrical generating systems provide 240volts, 50 cycles 24 hours a day. Our water supply comes from nearby springs but guests are advised not to drink from the taps. Instead, complimentary bottled mineral water is provided in the mini bars while further stocks are available for sale in the main bar. We welcome kids of all ages and can provide both special meals at convenient times and baby sitters on request. Our guest shop stocks a wide selection of curios, gift items, clothing, film, sweets, postcards, personal requisites and toiletries, while the other offers gemstones, jewelry and other more unusual items. The double size pool offers a refreshing interlude between game drives as well as wonderful views over the rolling plains of the Serengeti. Also, we can supply diesel and can carry out most minor repairs.
This morning after breakfast, we depart with picnic lunch boxes for a full day of game viewing drives on the vast Serengeti plains. In the early morning and evening light, the Serengeti landscape is stunningly beautiful. The Rolling plains and grasslands, stretching far into the horizons as far as the eye can see is home to the black-manned lion, the savannah elephant, the Cape buffalo, wildebeests, the elusive leopard, cheetah, the spotted & stripped hyena, the rhino, topi, burchelle’s zebra, the Masai giraffe among many others. Serengeti National Park is one that can never disappoint. One is spoilt by the variety of bird and wildlife species in this game reserve with game-viewing drives. Enjoy dinner and overnight at our lodge.
After breakfast, we depart to Ngorongoro. Our first stop will be at the Oldupai Gorge, one of the most important prehistoric sites in the world to learn on human evolution. You'll enjoy an on-site talk on the interpretation of the gorge by the resident guide. Later, we'll arrive at our crater rim lodge for check-in and lunch. Spend the afternoon relaxing at the lodge and enjoy the breath-taking spectacular views of the crater below, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. We'll have dinner at the lodge and call it a night.
About Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge
Spread out along the uppermost, eastern rim of the Ngorongoro World Heritage Site, the lodge offers breathtaking views of the crater floor far below. A day's safari through this unique conservation area provides you with spectacular and memorable game viewing experiences.
After breakfast we'll descend 610 metres into the crater, home to an abundance of wildlife for a full day of game-viewing drive with picnic lunch. You'll see prides of lions, herds of Cape buffalo, impala, Thompson gazelles, rhino, giraffes, golden & black-backed jackal, zebra, cheetah, leopard and the spotted hyena all freely roaming the crater floor plains. Unmatched for its natural variety & breath-taking beauty, there are few places on earth where such a tremendous diversity of landscapes exist inside a region this size. Apart from its wildlife riches, the crater is also of great archaeological importance, with the remains of some of mankind’s earliest ancestors discovered in the area, also a home to hundreds of bird species, refreshing in the small lakes in the crater floor. Return to Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge to rest up for tomorrow's travels.
Leaving Ngorongoro Crater behind, we'll head to Tarangire National Park for exciting game viewing through the majestic baobab trees. Here you'll find the stately fringe-eared Oryx and the peculiar long-necked gerenuk, as well as an abundance of elephants, wildebeest, zebras, and their predators. Our evening will be spent at the Tarangire Sopa Lodge.
About Tarangire Lodge
Completing the Northern Tanzania safari circuit the lodge, built as a 'low profile' structure, nestles into a wooded hillside valley overlooking Tarangire Hill. Situated 120km (75 miles) from Arusha, Tarangire National Park is easily accessible and boasts magnificent herds of elephant and other species of wildlife. The baobab studded landscape also plays host to a vast variety of resident and migratory bird life. Looking out over the rolling countryside the lodge is a tranquil oasis set in over 2,600 sq kms (900 sq miles) of National Park. The Tarangire flows north to south year-round and sustains an abundance of fauna and flora rarely seen elsewhere.
After breakfast we'll depart for Amboseli National Park, home to a plethora of game as well as 400 species of birds. We'll spend two days in the breath taking scenery of Africa, including the iconic Mount Kiliminjaro.
About Amboseli Serena Lodge
Nestled in the foothills of Kilimanjaro, hidden beneath a copse of giant acacia trees and beside a gently flowing natural spring lies Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge. With Kilimanjaro’s 6,000-meter-high snow-capped peaks rising behind the lodge and presiding over the landscape, which boasts more big game than almost anywhere else in Africa, the setting is nothing short of magnificent.
Inspired by local Masai architecture, the design of the lodge is in total harmony with the environment. Each guest room conveys a distinctive Masai Manyatta mood and is furnished with authentic African murals painted by a local artist.
Our safari adventure comes to an end. We'll transfer back to Nairobi for lunch at Carnivore before arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home.
