Albuquerque Arrival | Petroglyph National Monument & Rinconada Canyon Hike | Nambé Pueblo | Taos Pueblo | Taos
Your New Mexico adventure begins in Albuquerque, a capital city thriving with culture, history, and adventure. After pickups, you’ll head to Petroglyph National Monument for a welcome meeting followed by an easy hike around Rinconada Canyon’s rim. This route features nearly 300 petroglyphs – ancient rock carvings believed to be created by the ancestors of today’s Pueblo people. Next, you’ll head to Nambé Pueblo, a living Native American community nestled in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Explore the community and discover some of the natural wonders like Nambe Falls & Lake that abound on the nearly 20,000 acres of high desert landscape. Enjoy a picnic lunch before heading to Taos Pueblo – one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. Explore this World Heritage Site with a local expert before ending your day with dinner at a local restaurant in charming Taos.

Wheeler Peak Hike
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll be ready for a full day of hiking. Today, you’ll head to New Mexico’s highest mountain, Wheeler Peak, for a challenging and equally breathtaking hike. The trail leads you through a forest, where you’ll catch glimpses of the surrounding peaks just over the treeline. As you continue to ascend, you’ll rise above the treeline and witness the Taos peaks at eye level. You’ll ascend nearly 3,000 feet in total to get to the summit. Take some time to rest for a while at the top and refuel with a well-earned lunch while feasting your eyes on the stunning panorama of surrounding peaks. On your descent, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife like bighorn sheep, pika, and marmots. Freshen up back at your hotel before indulging in some delicious local fare at a favorite restaurant in town.
Backroad Bike Ride | Rio Grande Gorge Rim Hike | River Kayak | Santa Fe | Night on Your Own
Today you’ll put the “multi” into multi-sport adventure! Starting at Rio Grande Gorge Bridge – one of America’s highest bridges – you’ll grab a bike and ride out of Taos along mostly flat back roads. Next, you’ll swap your biking shoes for hiking boots and hike from rim to river. Your hike begins at the rim of the Rio Grande Gorge and gradually descends along the canyon walls to the Rio Grande River where a picnic lunch will be waiting for you. After lunch, you’ll take your adventure to the water and kayak the Rio Grande. Rest and relax on the short trip to Santa Fe, your home for the next two nights. Spend a relaxing evening in or set off to explore the many charms of town with a night on your own.

Today you’ll summit Atalya Mountain for some highly rewarding views. You’ll begin your hike in the forests of the Santa Fe foothills near St. John’s College. The trail gradually rises about 1,800 feet, offering jaw-dropping views at the top. A picnic lunch refuels you for an afternoon of biking the Santa Fe Rail Trail. This scenic ride features a mix of paved paths and packed red-dirt terrain that runs parallel to the Santa Fe Southern Railway, an active tourism line. Return to your hotel to clean up before your culinary adventure at Santa Fe School of Cooking. This beloved institution has shared the secrets of crafting iconic Southwestern recipes for decades. In this hands-on experience, you’ll learn the techniques and ingredients that make American Southwestern food so unique, then feast on the fruits of your labor.
Ponderosa Trail Hike | Bandelier National Monument | Valles Caldera | Albuquerque
After breakfast, your day begins on the Ponderosa Trail with a hike that brings you to Bandelier National Monument via the “back way.” On your way, you’ll pass a partially burnt forest that’s beginning to show signs of recovery, inviting deer and elk back in to nibble on new grasses. Pass through Frijoles Canyon and arrive at Bandelier National Monument, home to 33,000 acres of ruggedly beautiful landscapes and petroglyphs, masonry walls, and cliff dwellings which reveal human history dating back more than 11,000 years. Next up, you’ll head even further into the past with a visit to Valles Caldera, a 13-mile circular depression formed 1.25 million years ago from a volcanic eruption. Explore the caldera’s unique landscape and keep your eyes peeled for its abundant wildlife. Head back to Albuquerque for one last dinner with your fellow travelers.
