Dan’s Monthly Muse February 13th, 2021

DansMonthlyMuse Masthead RGB

Greetings Fellow Adventurers,

This Muse is going to look a bit different this week, and I hope you don’t mind! I decided to switch it up and virtually sit down with you via video, so grab a cup of coffee and hit play.

If you’d prefer to read the Muse (and I don’t blame you), you can get a shorter written version below.

I’m announcing today that my bi-weekly Saturday Muses will be switched up to once a month as we prepare for the busy travel season ahead of us. I know some of you will be disappointed, but we’ll still be giving you updates on the past months and the months ahead. So look for the Muse in your inbox on the first of every month going forward! I do want you to know how much I appreciate all the email replies and thoughtful gestures you’ve sent since I started these Muses. It’s been a great way to communicate, and we will be keeping it up.

To get ready for the first of our trips this year, Kasey, my daughter and our President, is busy buying vans, hiring new guides, bringing our veteran guides in to plan for annual spring training, and tuning up bikes to get ready to roll out the door. We typically kick off our season in the southwest near Utah around mid-April, this year is no exception. It’s going to be a busy year, and I think we’re ready for it!

Speaking of getting ready for the season, my wife Carol and I finally enjoyed our first getaway since the pandemic began to visit some favorite lodges in Yellowstone National Park. It’s been awhile since we’d been down there. We just wanted to see first-hand who was ready for what and see how they’re reacting to the new procedures and protocols in travel. I have to say, even though I was apprehensive at first, I was impressed! It was amazing, they are more than ready. They’re implementing great cleaning and safety protocols, and Carol and I felt comfortable staying in their rooms. They’re really ready to host us. We’re pretty excited about that and we look forward to getting into the season and doing what we do best!

This travel season won’t be without its challenges, but we’re far more ready and prepared this year since we’re more educated about the virus and safety recommendations. Please give it some thought about where you think you’d like to go next, we’re happy to help get you on your way. We understand not everyone may be quite ready to jump into travel this year, so we encourage you to give yourself something to look forward to in 2022. I always say planning and anticipating a trip is half the fun of traveling. Travel is so important to our DNA and there are so many positive psychological benefits that come from the planning process. But if you are itching to get out there this year, just know we’ve covered a lot of ground this past year revising our tour protocols and we’re excited to keep you moving safely and confidently.

One last thing before I sign off, we want to let you know that you have a chance to win a $10,000 vacation giveaway for two! All you have to do is submit a vote for your favorite tour operator or travel experience in Travel + Leisure magazine’s 2021 World’s Best Awards survey. Click this link for a quick how-to on votingWe’ve had the amazing opportunity to be named World’s Best Tour Operator in 2009 and 2012 and now we’ve been nominated for the 20th year! It was such an honor, and I think the third time’s the charm and we’d love to have your support. But more importantly, thanks for always being there for us, these past 30 years and especially these past 10 months.

Thanks for tuning in and I’ll see you again March 1st — and hopefully out on the trails this summer!

Namaste my friends, namaste,

Dan Austin
