Experience the feeling of a warm Spanish evening with this traditional sangría recipe.

The origins of this Spanish wine/rum concoction are a bit of a mystery. The popularity of the drink, however, extends well beyond the Spanish-speaking world. This classic sangría recipe will be the life of any party, whether it’s on the streets of Catalonia, or at your next house party.

1 bottle dry red wine

1 1/2 cups rum

1 cup orange juice

1/2 cup sugar

1 orange

1 lime

1 lemon

 

Combine:

1. Chill your fruit, rum, wine, and orange juice beforehand. Slice the lemon, lime and orange into thin rounds and place in a large glass pitcher. Pour in the rum and sugar. Let flavors infuse and develop in refrigerator for 2 hours.

2. When ready to serve, muddle the fruit lightly with a wooden spoon and stir in the wine and orange juice. Add additional sweetness to taste.
