A new trend is afoot. What was for many years the standard in the world of adventure travel–namely tours focused on hiking, and biking alone–is changing to meet the needs of active travelers. Tours that can offer a variety of activities and experiences are now the hot ticket.
Decades ago, Austin Adventures helped pioneer the concept of multi-sport travel in North America. And today what was once a new concept in the world of active travel–that of multi-sport vacations–has evolved and been widely embraced by tour operators and active travelers alike.
So what has driven this shift towards multi-sport and fitness vacation itineraries? In a word – our alumni. When the idea of multi-sport adventures was first born, bike tours were both popular and time-tested favorites among active travels. But the “perfect” bike ride turned out to not be necessarily convenient or available every day. And so the idea came, “what if you could hand-pick the best of the best? What if each day we focused on the perfect activity to pursue, be it biking, hiking, paddling or another lively activity?”
That’s the kind of travel experience (read: engagement) people are seeking out more than ever. And trips that combine lively activities with the thrill of discovering new places–are seeing an exponential boom in popularity these days. Traveling becomes ever-more dynamic, a place to explore new pursuits (Never tried kayaking? How about glacier-trekking?) as well as a way to enjoy familiar activities in a new destination. Familiarity and a keen sense of newness come together to make multi-sport adventure vacations truly special.
The power of multi-sport travel lies in the excitement and flexibility it provides. At Austin Adventures we select activities that each destination we visit is best known for, so whether it’s hiking in the Dolomites in Northeastern Italy, kayaking in Croatia, or even horseback riding in Montana, our guests are guaranteed tours that are truly immersive, engaging, and inspiring.
Discover a few of our multi-sport adventures below. Far from the standard vacation–the guard-rail variety that leaves you “sightseeing”–these multi-sport adventures engage your whole mind and body, leaving you a little tired, a bit dirty, and very much alive.
