What in the World is there to do in Jackson Hole, WY?

Your plane has landed. Your clothing is still perfectly folded in your bags and your excited for your awesome adventure to begin. However, you have three days of down time prior to the start. You’re wondering how to get the real Jackson experience without overlapping with the activities on your Austin Adventures tour. The answer is easy; there are a million activities in the area that can be an excellent addition to your stay here in the great American West!

If an active adventure is your cup of tea, check out the Mill Iron Ranch for great horseback riding. Although it’s a bit of a drive out of town, the options for two or four hour rides offer some alternative views of the Tetons that can only be seen from the beautiful Mill Iron property. For those interested in speed-filled thrills, head over to Snow King Resort, in the south part of town, for a great ride down the steep trails of the mountain. The alpine slide is a swift decent in a one or two person cart with the driver in total control of the speed. This is as close to an Olympic luge experience as some people can get, yet great fun for the whole family!

If you came out west to find the slower, more relaxed pace of life there is plenty to fill your time with as you mosey through town. The best and most commonly used reference point of Jackson has to be the town square, its easily located with arches of elk antlers marking the four corners. From here on Cache St. you can easily locate Gaslight Alley. This is a small block of town filled with shops bursting with local and international art work, and some special souvenirs for everyone in the family. Don’t forget to swing by the Jackson Hole Hat Company to stock up on styles that will make you fit right in at the rodeo! Speaking of cowboys, be sure to catch the daily shoot out at 6:00 on the north end of the block. The classic shoot out is a hard-to-miss attraction that gives everyone the Wild West experience, and it’s free! Also found on Cache St. is the Ripley’s Believe It or Not museum, filled with creepy tales and fun filled facts for all to enjoy.

The downtown aspect of Jackson is an essential part of the visit here. I recommend that anyone who heads this way go and experience it, even for a short while. Your Austin Adventures trip will take you to many amazing places throughout the region, however take a moment with the family and walk around town for some good ol’ fashion fun. Hope to see you all out here soon!
