Rhet grew up in Cave Creek, Arizona within the family business of training thoroughbred racehorses. However, Rhet greatly preferred taking long hikes in the desert looking for javelina or quail than cleaning horse stalls and throwing hay bales. This passion for wildlife and the outdoors led him to Arizona State University as a Dorrance Scholar. He became the first member of his family to graduate from college with a degree in Wildlife Sciences. Rhet spent time working on research projects with black bears, California sea lions, black-footed ferrets, and platypus before taking his first guiding job in Grand Teton National Park.

That one seasonal guide job changed his career trajectory as he found a deep passion for adventure travel and sharing the natural world with people from across the globe. In the 14 years since getting into the industry, Rhet has worked in Wyoming, Oklahoma, Florida, Arizona, Utah, Louisiana, Alaska, and Hawaii. He has guided hikes, ziplines, horseback rides, wildlife viewing, and off-road adventures.
When not helping others to experience the wonders of travel and the outdoors he can usually be found planning his next adventure. To date, Rhet has visited 49 of the 50 states, 32 of 63 National Parks, and 27 countries on 6 continents.

What’s Your Favorite Vacation Destination?

I usually answer “the next one” but the truth is my most memorable trip was to Egypt in 2017 where I met my now-wife, Hayley, while we both were on a small group trip. So, if you are thinking about booking a trip, do it. It just might change your life!

What’s Your Favorite Hike?

Havasu Falls in Arizona

This would be a really long list but if pressed I would have to say Petra in Jordan or The Valley of the Kings in Egypt.

Favorite movie?

Wyatt Earp

Favorite Book?

1776 by David McCullough

Favorite Song?

We Shall Be Free by Garth Brooks

When Did You First Catch the Travel Bug?

While studying abroad at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia. I moved there without knowing a single person on the continent and loved the feeling of personal growth that came with it. Spending 6 months experiencing a new culture, making new friends, eating new foods, and learning new things was intoxicating. I still get that feeling every time I am somewhere new and love the characters you meet along the way.
