The United States
Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
Crater Lake National Park is a stunning location in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is famous for its clear blue waters, which are the result of rain and snowmelt that fill the caldera of an ancient volcano. The park is located just outside of the path of totality, but due to its remote location and the lack of light pollution, visitors will be able to clearly witness the sun disappear behind the moon against a backdrop of towering mountains and stunning rock formations. Costa Rica is one of the few countries outside the United States that will experience the 2023 solar eclipse. The country is located in the path of totality and offers a unique tropical setting for eclipse viewing.

What else should you consider?
Crowds and getting to your viewing location early
In addition to choosing your viewing location, it's also important to plan for crowds. The 2017 eclipse brought millions of people to locations along the path of totality, causing traffic jams and overcrowding in some areas. If you're planning to travel to view the 2023 eclipse, be prepared for large crowds and consider finding a hidden or secret spot for your viewing. Also, try arriving at your viewing location well in advance.
Safety
Safety is very important during any solar eclipse event due to the risk of damaging your sight. The following is from NASA's safety tips for solar events:
Except during the brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun without specialized eye protection for solar viewing.
Viewing any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will instantly cause severe eye injury.
When watching the partial phases of the solar eclipse directly with your eyes, which happens before and after totality, you must look through safe solar viewing glasses (“eclipse glasses”) or a safe handheld solar viewer at all times. Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and must comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard.
What will I see during a Solar Eclipse?
Aside from the enveloping darkness and beautiful silhouette of the moon, what else will you see if you look out for it?
One of the unique aspects of a total solar eclipse is the sudden onset of darkness during the daytime. As the Moon passes in front of the Sun, the sky will gradually darken until the Sun is completely covered. The darkness during totality will last for only a few minutes before the Sun reemerges, but it's an eerie and unforgettable experience.
During totality, the Sun's corona, the outermost layer of its atmosphere, will be visible as a glowing halo around the Moon. This is one of the most striking and beautiful aspects of a total solar eclipse, and it's a sight that can't be seen at any other time.
